Demand: Leslie, 4 June 2009, Boston Common

She was about to play the bagpipes, but I could tell her shirt was homemade or designed or something, which she confirmed. She said she mostly shops at Goodwill or Urban Renewal, where she got a real find recently:
It's going to sound hideous. A sweater-type thing, that's stripy, with a flowery design.
She agreed that it was kind of weird to see high-end boutiques selling stuff with the frayed, distressed look that (presumably) originated at Goodwill.
I feel like we've ridiculed that look, but people still do it.

Demand: Ivan and Sugandha, 4 June 2009, Boston Common

Ivan and Sugandha are symbiotic. "One day I let her choose, one day I choose," Ivan explains. This doesn't always work perfectly: "He wants me to wear the shortest clothes," Sugandha said.

Sugandha: He hates squares

So why is he wearing them?

Sugandha: 'Cause he loves me

Supply: the gorilla bank, Irving's Toy & Card Shop, Brookline, Mass.

You can't see it from this angle, but there's a slot in the head.

Demand: Barbara (and Princess), 4 June 2009, Boston Common

Barbara, the one pictured, clearly had fashion philosophy: "You make what you wear." She said her inspiration is Betsey Johnson, whom she described as "original, vintage, free-spirited but still professional."

A woman over thirty shouldn't wear...

Barbara: Miniskirts.

Princess: I be forty rocking that thing! Suspenders.

Demand: Sean, 4 June 2009, Boston Common

Sean was sporting a nicely bent Detroit Tigers "D" hat. He said his family had roots in Detroit, and the hat was thirty years old. He designs his own skateboards.

He isn't generally too worried about his look, but it can't just be anything.
I did think when I put this [stuff] on. I mean, I don't want to look gross.

Demand: Danny, 4 June 2009, Chinatown

Danny caught my eye because of the Johnny Cupcakes shirt and aqua green Nikes. His favorite shoes are Nike Dunks and SBs.
I blame my girlfriend for the bright colors.
